Great news! With a unanimous, bipartisan vote, the House Appropriations Committee adopted a provision supporting the Lupus Accelerating Breakthroughs Consortium (Lupus ABC) – the only public-private partnership convened by the Lupus Research Alliance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), focusing on the complex challenges of lupus drug development.
This accomplishment was a key priority that LRA advocates shared with lawmakers during LRA’s Virtual Advocacy Day in March, calling for stronger coordination and federal support for lupus research programs. The language was adopted unanimously by Republicans and Democrats, showing the growing recognition of the need to work together to surmount barriers that affect lupus drug development.
While the process for enacting the provision into law is not yet complete, this is real progress – and a clear example of how advocacy makes a difference. LRA thanks its advocates and congressional champions for advancing this priority.
