Positive Results of Phase 3 Dapirolizumab Pegol Trial in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Shown in Published Paper

The Lupus Research Alliance welcomes additional positive results from the Phase 3 PHOENYCS GO study showing that combined with standard care, investigational dapirolizumab pegol (DZP) in development by UCB and Biogen Inc. significantly improved disease activity in patients with moderate-to-severe active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). These data were published in The Lancet, a highly prestigious medical journal.

In the PHOENYCS GO trial, 50% of patients with SLE treated with DZP plus standard of care achieved clinically relevant improvement of disease activity across all affected organ as measured by the accepted composite endpoint British Isles Lupus Assessment Group (BILAG)-based Composite Lupus Assessment (BICLA). In comparison, 35% of those SLE patients receiving placebo plus standard of care achieved this response.

The PHOENYCS GO results also showed DZP plus standard of care improved flares, fatigue, and skin- and joint-related outcomes as measured by standard tools as well as key diagnostic markers of autoimmunity. At week 48, more patients treated with DZP and standard of care were able to lower their glucocorticoid dose than those treated with placebo and standard of care. Safety findings were generally favorable, consistent with previous DZP studies.

Having partnered with UCB and Biogen on the PHOENYCS GO trial, Lupus Therapeutics, clinical research affiliate of the Lupus Research Alliance, continues to partner with the companies on the confirmatory Phase 3 trial PHOENYCS FLY trial also investigating the safety and efficacy of DZP for patients with moderate to severe active SLE.
