Could the future of lupus care be on your plate?
Lupus Therapeutics, the clinical affiliate of the Lupus Research Alliance, launched a pioneering initiative – Investigate Dietary Approaches for Lupus (IDEAL) – exploring the connection between diet, gut health, and lupus care. That starts with funding a pilot study at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
Led by Monica Guma, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Autoimmunity, and Inflammation, UCSD, this clinical research is asking a powerful question: Can a Mediterranean-based diet enhance the effectiveness of lupus medications – and improve the lived experience with lupus?
This study may one day lead to dietary recommendations and better care for those affected by the disease.
