September 5 is designated by the United Nations as the International Day of Charity – created to mobilize people “to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.” We hope you will recognize the day with a donation to the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA).
Our mission at the LRA is to transform the lives of people with lupus through the power of science, and this is an opportune moment to let you know how we are perceived as a charity by independent organizations that exist to help donors evaluate where to best invest their contributions — proudly we stand amongst the best and most highly respected!
We earned the best rating — four out of four stars — by Charity Navigator. This designation is given for exceptional performance, meaning that the LRA “exceeds industry standards, and outperforms most charities” in our field. Since 2001, Charity Navigator has been providing “clear, objective, and reliable assessments of both the Financial Health and Accountability & Transparency of charities.”
Once again, the LRA received the Gold Seal of Transparency from Guidestar . Less than five percent of the 1.7 million nonprofits evaluated by Guidestar earn a Seal from Guidestar, and only 20% of those that do earn the Gold.
Additionally, LRA gained “Top Rated” status with an “A” ranking from nonprofit evaluator, CharityWatch — a status unparalleled by any other lupus organization. Charity Watch aims to serve the donating public with ratings that help make informed giving decisions. The LRA is also a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity, having met all their 20 standards for accountability. The LRA is also selected yet another year to participate in the Combined Federal Campaign, the largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign raising millions of dollars each year through donations by current and retired employees of the Federal government, U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Armed Forces.
