The Lupus Research Alliance is recognizing July’s designation as Healthy Vision Month by providing you with helpful information about its relevance to people with lupus from foremost authorities, the American College of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. A medication commonly used to treat lupus inflammation, Plaquenil, can pose a risk to eye health, so it is recommended by both organizations to see an ophthalmologist – eye specialist – regularly to check your vision.
Also, the Lupus Research Alliance is funding many studies to help identify and test treatment options that can provide alternatives to Plaquenil or supplement its effects so the dosage can be kept as low as possible.
