The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is proud to have helped launch this year’s football season at the New York Jets Annual Kickoff Luncheon yesterday. In addition to introducing the 2024 team roster, the event spotlighted the worthwhile causes supported by the New York Jets. With the support of more than 500 passionate fans, the luncheon raised over $800,000 to benefit the LRA and the New York Jets Foundation! View Luncheon Photo Gallery
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, LRA President and CEO Albert Roy commented, “As I was reflecting on how LRA approaches our important work, I saw many parallels with how the Jets approach their craft – and its centered around preparing a strategic game plan. Like the Jets, we assemble a talented team of professionals and mobilize around a clear vision – for us, the goal is to free the world of lupus. We both create a culture of connectiveness and collaboration. Above all, we remain relentlessly focused on winning – at the LRA that means identifying and enabling the most promising lupus research in the world that delivers the breakthroughs that can deliver new treatments and a cure.”
After thanking the Board of Directors for their unwavering support, Mr. Roy acknowledged the Johnson family and particularly LRA co-founder Robert Wood (Woody) Johnson IV. “I think it’s safe to say that there may be nothing that would make Woody happier than bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to New York. But that said, I’m inclined to believe that finding a cure for lupus would have a more profound impact given how lupus has touched Woody and the hundreds of thousands of others living with the disease…so let’s achieve both!”
Thanking the Board of Directors for their continued commitment, Mr. Roy noted, “Every dollar donated by the public goes directly to lupus research programs because our Board covers all operating and fundraising costs.”
Mr. Roy also had the honor of presenting the Game Ball Award to 2024 Luncheon Honoree Hub International in recognition of the company’s two decades of collaboration with the New York Jets. Ken Schreiber, President of Hub International Commercial Lines, accepted the Award on the company’s behalf.
“We’ve been a part of the Jets for almost 60 years – we had never worked with a sports team before,” noted Mr. Schreiber. “It’s been a tremendous partnership. We work with many teams now, but no relationship like the one we have with the Jets.”
