As reported by Medical University of South Carolina, a new study published in Lupus Science & Medicine identifies a specific enzyme in the lining of blood vessels that produces nitric oxide as a potential target in treating heart disease – both in lupus and in otherwise healthy individuals. Restoring the function of this enzyme may also help protect people with lupus from kidney disease. The study was conducted by Drs. Jim Oates and Joy Buie.
