On Sunday night, after delivering a performance at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles, Selena Gomez hopped on a red-eye to New York in advance of Monday’s Lupus Research Alliance’s Breaking Through Lupus Gala—an event for which she also served as honorary gala cochair. “I love what I do, but at the end of the day it’s not enough to just spend my platform on places that feel good to me,” Gomez told Vogue. “It’s important to recognize the hard work that people do here. I’ve lived with [Lupus] my whole life, and Lupus is something that’s been hard for my family, hard for me, and those around me. I’m honored to be here.”
