ACR Special Report: Philadelphia, PA, October 18-21, 2009

The Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) is pleased to share our second annual American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Meeting Special Report. Each year, thousands of lupus researchers and clinicians from throughout the world gather at the ACR’s annual meeting to network and share their latest discoveries.

The 2009 ACR meeting was recently held in Philadelphia. Almost 15,000 scientists and physicians from more than 100 countries attended the six-day meeting. They heard presentations from more than 400 speakers and viewed thousands of poster abstracts highlighting the latest work in rheumatology diseases, including lupus.

The level of research now ongoing in all aspects of lupus is breathtaking. I have a renewed sense of hope that we are getting closer to making significant strides in improving management of this disease. Given the advances in our understanding of lupus, I can see that one day we will even have a cure.

We hope you find this meeting report informative. We look forward to sharing more information with you about additional lupus milestones and treatment advances in the months and years ahead. This year, we thank our corporate sponsors, Biogen Idec, Genentech and Johnson & Johnson, for their generous support of this special report, which enables us to bring you the latest conference news.
