First Annual Advocacy Day

Alliance for Lupus Research 2nd Annual National Volunteer Meeting
April 30th – May 2nd, 2006

ALR volunteers and supporters from around the country gathered in Washington, D.C., for fundraising and grassroots advocacy training, our National Awards Dinner, and our first-ever Advocacy Day.

The lively training sessions were filled with shared stories of fundraising success and tips on becoming a successful advocate for lupus research.

Our Second Annual National Awards Dinner, on the evening of May 1st, was a spectacular event. Nearly 200 people attended this celebration of the success of the Walk with Us to Cure Lupus program in 2005. Congratulations, again, to all the Awards winners.

Most crucially, on May 2nd, members of the ALR community visited Congress to share their experiences with lupus. These visits were a crucial first step for our grassroots advocacy program, as we move toward our goal of creating a designated program for lupus research within the Department of Defense.
