ANSONIA — Laura Poquette has a passion for finding a cure for lupus, and for raising awareness about the autoimmune disease.
Poquette, a single mother of two, said she wants to meet at least one person who feels the same way and is willing to help her work on the upcoming 5K (3.1-mile) walk for the Alliance for Lupus Research.
The third annual Walk With Us to Cure Lupus will be held rain or shine June 26. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 at the Nolan Athletic Complex track on Wakelee Avenue.
Poquette’s daughter, Erika Poquette, 19, was diagnosed with lupus in February 2005, when she was in eighth grade. Laura Poquette said her daughter, who just finished her freshman year in college, is doing well and is taking a new medication.
The goal is to raise $20,000. Last year’s walk raised nearly that amount, Laura Poquette said.
