Lupus Research Alliance Sends Best Wishes on Woody Johnson’s Ambassadorship

The Lupus Research Alliance warmly congratulates our founder and the owner of the New York Jets Woody Johnson on his confirmation as Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

"We are extremely proud to see the man who has given so much to the lupus community now representing the United States on the world stage,” said Lupus Research Alliance CEO and President Kenneth M. Farber. “With his strong leadership and profound love of country, the American people could not ask for a better Ambassador to the United Kingdom than Woody Johnson.”

Mr. Johnson first founded the Alliance for Lupus Research in 1999 in response to the illness of a family member as the best way to support research for the prevention, treatment and cure for lupus. Having merged in 2016 with the Lupus Research Institute and the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation, the Lupus Research Alliance is the world’s largest private funder of innovative lupus research.

In assuming the Ambassadorship, Mr. Johnson turns his Board chairmanship of the Lupus Research Alliance over to Ira Akselrad and Richard DeScherer who will now serve as co-chairs of the organization. The Board of Directors continues their commitment to fund all administrative and fundraising costs, allowing 100% of all donations goes to support lupus research programs.

Mr. Farber pledged, “We will carry forth Mr. Johnson’s vision for transforming the lives of people affected with lupus by fostering the finest scientific talent and financing the most innovative lupus research.”
