Ansonian Again Runs Lupus Walkathon this June

May 28, 2012

ANSONIA — Laura Poquette continues to fight the good fight against lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease. Her daughter, Erika Poquette, 21, was diagnosed with lupus when she was in eighth grade.

Laura Poquette is again coordinating the 2012 Connecticut Walk with Us to Cure Lupus Walkathon to raise money and awareness for the Alliance for Lupus Research. Her fundraising goal is $15,000.

The fourth annual event is June 16 at Nolan Athletic Complex on Wakelee Avenue. Attractions include food, a DJ, games, an auction and inflatables.

“When I started working with the ALR to find a cure, it was for my daughter,” Laura Poquette said. “Now, it is for her and all of my friends I have made along the way who suffer from this disease that they have no control over.”
