Multicultural Outreach Task Force Revs Up This Fall
The ALR’s Multi-Cultural Outreach Task Force held its first annual fundraising breakfast event on September 17, 2013 at the Museum of Art and Design at Columbus Circle in NYC. The aim: raise awareness of lupus among those most at risk and honor award-winning newscaster, Brenda Blackmon, who chairs this effort.
The task force reaches out to groups who are most vulnerable — in their own communities — with the idea of raising awareness and giving them a voice in the quest to find a cure. GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical and Eli Lilly helped to underwrite the event.
Shop For A Cause Promotion with Macy’s
On August 24, 2013, Macy’s — through its Shop For A Cause promotion — gave customers a chance to support the ALR... while they received 25% off the price of merchandise.
All customers had to do was purchase a $5 shopping pass for exclusive savings in every Macy’s store. In thanking Macy’s, ALR President Kenneth M. Farber said: “We’re indebted to Macy’s — not only for the money raised through this promotion, but for the wide attention it brings to lupus awareness.”
Walk with Us to Cure Lupus Aims Even Higher
The momentum is growing... walkers from across the country are getting excited to participate for the greatest results ever. The national goal for Walk with Us to Cure Lupus is $3 million this year.
Meanwhile walkers in New York will try to surpass the benchmark amounts they raised for the past two years — $1 million!
