Two Doctors Receive Awards for Excellence

The Lupus Insight Prize

Mark J. Shlomchik, MD, PhD, incoming Chair of Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh, has been named the first recipient of the prestigious Lupus Insight Prize.

The prize will allow Dr. Shlomchik to continue to investigate the connection between the death of neutrophils, the body’s most abundant white blood cells, and lupus.

The ALR awards the Lupus Insight Prize — in collaboration with the Lupus Foundation of America and the Lupus Research Institute — to recognize and honor exceptional investigators each year.

The NIH Merit Award

George Tsokos, MD, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, recently received the NIH MERIT award recognizing his longstanding scientific contributions to lupus research.

This award will help further Dr. Tsokos’s work to characterize biochemical and molecular events to improve the function of the immune system for lupus patients.

Selected as awardees, Dr. Shlomchik and Dr. Tsokos have already demonstrated a record of creativity, innovation, and productivity. They are outstanding scientists, even in the rarified environment of lupus research.
