A Message From The President

Barbara BoytsDear Friends of the ALR,

We are truly at the threshold of a new era as we see our collective hard work pay off in many new lupus clinical trials.

As part of our 10th year anniversary celebration, Dr. Peggy Crow, Chair of our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) talks about this progress and the challenges ahead of putting together all that we have learned.

In celebration of the ALR’s 10th Anniversary, our Board of Directors will continue to match every dollar donated through our fundraising appeals — including this newsletter — up to $1 million!

Your support is deeply appreciated — especially now. The turbulent economy of 2009 drove donations down for many non-profits — but your support helped to shield the ALR and gifts were higher than in previous years!

Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for enabling the ALR to fund truly groundbreaking initiatives.

Barbara Boyts
President, ALR

P.S., I would like to welcome Mr. Ira Akselrad, President of The Johnson Company, Inc. as a new member of our Board of Directors. Also welcome to Dr. Robert L. Coffman, Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Dynavax Technologies Corp.; and Dr. Bevra Hahn, Chief of Rheumatology and Arthritis UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine Rehabilitation Center, as new members of our Scientific Advisory Board.
