Pilot Grant Program

The Alliance for Lupus (ALR) announces its Pilot Grant Program, a new initiative to enhance its current efforts to fund innovative lupus research. Pilot Grant awardees will receive up to $75,000 for one year of support. The application deadline is October 2, 2006.

Support will focus on:

  • Research that reflects innovative approaches and techniques
  • Research to develop pilot data for submission of larger awards to NIH, ALR or other funding organizations
  • New investigators who demonstrate promise and productivity and are working in an environment that supports their research efforts
  • Research by scientists who are experts in areas other than lupus, but whose expertise is relevant to the advancement of lupus research
  • Established lupus investigators embarking on clearly discernible new directions in their work

Applications in the following areas are particularly encouraged:

  • Clinical studies
  • Research that takes advantage of existing or planned collections of patient or clinical materials
  • Grants that seek to identify or characterize putative biomarkers
