ALR Lupus Awareness Day at the New York Jets
On Sunday, September 23, 2007, over 40 ALR and Burgdorff ERA volunteers along with the Jets Women’s Organization (JWO) joined the ALR at the “Jets” Meadowlands Stadium to help “tackle” lupus at the second annual ALR Lupus Awareness Day. In addition to increasing awareness of lupus and the ALR’s mission to prevent, treat and cure lupus through medical research, volunteers distributed nearly 50,000 purple ALR Lupus Awareness Bracelets and collected donations from fans entering the Stadium - over $13,000 which will go to support the best lupus research in the world!

New York Jets Kickoff Luncheon
On Wednesday, August 29, 2007, over 500 guests and J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! Fans joined the New York Jets and the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) at this year’s New York Jets Kickoff Luncheon. The annual kickoff luncheon honored John Adam Kanas, former President, CEO and Chairman of North Fork Bancorporation, Inc. and was held at Cipriani Wall Street. Over $800,000 was raised for ALR-funded lupus research and the important community investments made by the New York Jets Foundation.

The Alliance for Lupus Research welcomed the friendship and company of nearly 400 guests at this year’s One Love. One Cause. Gala Celebration on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at The Pierre in New York City. The evening honored Sir Howard Stringer - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Corporation and the Tammy and Ken Fisher Family. A performance by Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson provided a special end to the evening. Over $1 million was raised at the 2007 One Love. One Cause. Gala Celebration and will be applied to support the innovative and aggressive research programs of the ALR!

Geoff Thomas Cycles the Country to Raise Lupus Awareness

Geoff Thomas was diagnosed in 2003 with lupus. In his current cycling lap of the United States, he hopes to raise lupus awareness - especially in his home country of Australia where lupus is still very much an unknown and misunderstood disease. Cycling across the United States has been an ambition of Geoff’s for many years. Now that the adventure has begun, Geoff encourages you to use him as a vehicle to increase lupus awareness, fundraise and support charitable causes.
