ALR Board Member Chuck Huebner discusses Lupus

Because the symptoms of lupus, such as low-grade fever, skin rashes, painful/swollen joints, and extreme fatigue, are often confused with the symptoms of other diseases, lupus is difficult to diagnose and treat. Yet with committed research, scientists are increasing the available knowledge about this autoimmune disease. The ALR-funded International SLE Genetics (SLEGEN) Consortium research project has identified 13 genes that may be linked to lupus, engendering further research that could facilitate earlier diagnosis and new treatments. Other ALR-funded research initiatives are also working toward lupus prevention and an eventual cure.
